IP Network Engineer

Client, is seeking to engage a contingent worker in support of ongoing and emerging work across the Enterprise network. The work assignment will be part of the Microwave, Radio, Transport, and Power Team and will be matrixed to one or more Agile teams over time to complete assignments that support the Enterprise Communications Grid Program. Work will include providing specifications, procurement, engineering packages and documentation, and technical support associated with the design and implementation of optical transport systems to provide Ethernet backhaul services.
Expertise with Ciena 6500 and 3932 platforms or similar optical transport solutions to provide Ethernet backhaul connectivity is required.
Experience with Netsmart or other network element manager applications is required.
Experience with other optical transport, and grid communication networks and the build-out and documentation of these networks is desired.
Knowledge and experience in IP networking is required.
Knowledge of power systems is a plus.
Experience in design and support of High Voltage Protection schemes is required.
In addition to design and implementation, this position will provide 3rd level support as needed.
While most work is expected to be during normal business hours, cut-over and support activities will be required outside normal business hours.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The successful candidate will develop telecommunications solutions to address Client business needs including the planning, designing, implementing, testing and documentation of the communication systems & network components. This candidate will develop support processes to better enable 1st and 2nd level support teams to handle support issues along with providing 3rd level advance support as needed.
Works independently with little direct supervision.
Prepare engineering job packages consisting of detailed parts / equipment lists, logical installation instructions, and appropriate documentation (drawings, network diagrams, shelf layouts, etc.).
Ensure cost effective system designs meet business needs with reliable and efficient service.
Prepare and submit cost estimates, economic studies, and Work Orders for planned installations where required.
Work effectively with other team members providing coordination leadership to successfully implement projects as needed.
Maintain familiarity with current telecommunications technology and available facilities.
Provide technical assistance to NOC, Installation, and Maintenance personnel as required.
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, MIS, or a related discipline OR 8-10 years of prior equivalent work related experience in lieu of a degree .
Three or more years of prior equivalent work related experience in Telecom/IT or a related field in addition to a degree with a demonstrated ability to deliver cost effective, customer focused solutions to business problems.
Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
Ability to work well within a team, either as a lead or peer member.

Basic Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio
Experience with RF link systems including Cambium and Nokia MPR9500 series radios.
Experience with SONET, DWDM and Ethernet transport platforms

- Basic Networking background with IPv4 Physical Link, Data Link, Routing and switching. (IPv6 desired)

Experience with the Corporate Documentation System (Fusion).
Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations related to Telecommunications and the Utility Industry
Experience with DC power systems including 24VDC, -48VDC, Power over Ethernet (POE), and 130VDC
Basic understanding of 120/240V AC single phase and 120/208V AC 3-phase power systems
Training and/or Certifications pertaining to Radio or Microwave technologies
